Eric Nordevall II Launched

On Saturday 27th June, the Eric Nordevall II, a full sized working replica of the Eric Nordevall, built in 1836, and sank in 1856. This wreck has been found, 45m deep, and in surprisingly good condition. The 'Forsviks Vars' was founded in 1995 with the aim of building a full sized working replica of the Eric Nordevall. It is being built as close to the original as possible, but certain changes as imposed by the Swedish Maritime Administration. Her hull is constructed entirely of wood, built to the plans of the original ship, as are her engines. After launch on Saturday, Eric Nordevall was towed across the lake, accompanied by the SS Motala Express, to have her engine put in. More pictures in News-Images
